After guest starring on Chicago Justice, Dylan Walsh is returning to Law and Order SVU for a recurring role during Law and Order SVU season 20.

The next season of Dick Wolf‘s Law & Order: SVU is bringing back an actor that fans of the franchise will definitely recognize.

Dylan Walsh has booked a recurring role in the upcoming SVU season 20, playing the character of John Conway, according to Deadline.

Conway is a successful businessman who runs a beverage distribution company and is respected in the community—but it’s highly likely that will change when he runs afoul of Olivia Benson and her detectives.

No details were given on when Walsh’s character will debut, or how many episodes he’ll be a part of.

The actor previously guest starred in the Chicago Justice episode “Fool Me Twice” as a corrupt police detective. Peter Stone (Philip Winchester) tried to prosecute him, but Walsh’s character was ultimately acquitted by a jury.

Dylan Walsh previously appeared in SVU season 8 as a suspect who was assaulted by Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni), and has also been a guest star on Law & Order: Criminal Intent.

TV fans may also recognize him from his series regular roles on the shows Unforgettable, Nip/Tuck and most recently Life Sentence, which was axed after one season on The CW.

Here’s an interview with him from that series, which is completely different from his work in the One Chicago and Law & Order franchises:

It’s fairly common for Dick Wolf’s Law & Order franchise to re-use actors, whether it’s across more than one show, or even on the same show (which is what’s happening with Dylan Walsh).

Walsh is a veteran character actor who always gives a reliable performance, and it’s been eleven years since his first SVU episode, so it’s been more than enough time to bring him back. It’d still be interesting if one of his upcoming scripts tosses in some reference to his past appearance, though, especially if Conway winds up becoming a suspect in whatever crime occurs.

And what storyline requires him to appear in more than one episode? Are we about to see another recurring nemesis for Benson and company, or could Conway be involved in some other way? We don’t have a clue what’s in store for Dylan Walsh, which is another reason his episodes are going to be worth watching. He can play both good guys and bad guys, and based on the scant details here, it could be either one this time around.
