Dick Wolf’s unscripted series Cold Justice is returning with a new season. Get the details on Cold Justice season 5 and watch the series trailer.

Dick Wolf is known for the One Chicago and Law & Order franchises, but he also produces several reality TV shows, and one is returning this Saturday. Cold Justice season 5 begins Aug. 5 on NBC‘s sister channel Oxygen.

In Cold Justice, former prosecuting attorney Kelly Siegler works with a rotating team of private investigators to re-open unsolved cases and try to find resolution, often years after the original investigation has taken place.

The new season adds a new investigator, Abbey Abbondandolo.

Existing investigators Johnny Bonds, Steve Spingola, Aaron Sam and Tonya Rider are all returning for the new episodes, along with Siegler. This is the show’s second season on Oxygen; it originally aired on TNT for its first three seasons.

More from One Chicago Center

In tonight’s season premiere, entitled “Small Town Secrets,” Siegler teams up with Spingola to dig into an unsolved homicide in Wisconsin. Here’s how the network officially describes the episode:

"The case becomes personal after they receive a letter from the victim’s daughters. Their search uncovers a town’s dark side, crimes against children and lies within a church."

According to press materials released by Oxygen, the previous four seasons of the show have produced 18 convictions out of 37 arrests made as a result of the cases presented.

“This is the only TV show that has ever existed, or will ever exist in my opinion,” Siegler told One Chicago Center in our interview during the fourth season, “that actually takes unsolved murder cases and solves them during the time we’re in the town and airs it on TV.”

While it’s nothing like any of the scripted fare that TV fans are used to seeing from Dick Wolf, the season may provide something of a fix for audiences as they wait for new episodes of his franchise properties to return next month.

Audiences will just have to remember that the show doesn’t premiere in primetime—Oxygen has it penciled into an early-evening time slot. Check out the provided Cold Justice series trailer below, then watch the season 5 premiere when it airs at 6 p.m. ET/PT tonight:
