Look back at where Chicago Med began this summer. Read our retrospective on the tenth episode as we rewatch Chicago Med season 1, episode 10.

Over the One Chicago summer break, we’re looking back at where it all began by rewatching the first seasons of our shows—and today we’re revisiting Chicago Med season 1, episode 10.

If you want to rewatch this episode along with us, you can find Chicago Med season 1 on iTunes and DVD.

“Clarity” is one of the most memorable episodes from the first season, thanks to a major scene for all the Manstead shippers out there.

It carries over the main plot from episode nine as a subplot, as Dr. Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) is reeling after a decision he made left him in trouble and the hospital targeted by a lawsuit.

Naturally, that means it’s a perfect time for Will to work his next case with his not so secret crush and occasional sparring partner Dr. Natalie Manning (Torrey DeVitto).

When Will and Natalie disagree for neither the first nor the last time, Will makes another drastic choice, this time to confess his true feelings to Natalie.

It doesn’t change that much, honestly; it would take another season and a half for Manstead to become an official couple, as Chicago Med extended the “will they, won’t they” dynamic about as long as it could between them.

But if you had any doubt that this was where the show was going, or that this was going to be the central ship of this series, that was definitely erased by this scene that proved Will was going to have his heart set on Natalie as long as it could possibly take. Rewatch it again below:

But Will and Natalie aren’t the only duo disagreeing in “Clarity.” There’s also a battle between Dr. Connor Rhodes (Colin Donnell) and his new mentor Dr. David Downey (recurring guest star Gregg Henry). We’re now well aware of how quirky Downey is, and how he’s going to push Connor out of his comfort zone.

It’s still interesting to see them butt heads, as Connor can’t figure this guy out and to an extent, neither can the audience. We have to understand why Connor puts up with this instead of going back to trauma surgery, and it’s a puzzle worth figuring out. Rewatch this episode on iTunes and DVD to take a second look at this episode full of inter-hospital conflict, and see whose side you’re on.
