Amy Morton to make Broadway directing debut
Chicago PD’s Amy Morton will direct her first Broadway play next spring as she helms a new production of David Mamet’s Glengarry Glen Ross.
Another One Chicago actress is headed to the Great White Way. Amy Morton, who stars as Trudy Platt on Chicago PD, will direct a Broadway revival of Glengarry Glen Ross in May.
Morton is a stage veteran, who has earned two Tony Award nominations for her performances in August: Osage County and Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf respectively.
Yet this is a milestone for her, because Glengarry Glen Ross will be the first Broadway play that she’s ever directed.
The only details released about the revival were that it begins performances in May 2019 and that all of its main characters will be female, as opposed to the play’s original all-male lineup. No actors have been cast yet, according to Deadline.

Amy Morton’s direction of Glengarry Glen Ross shouldn’t affect her work on Chicago PD. The play’s opening in May means that it will be starting around the same time the upcoming One Chicago season is ending.
Depending on how far in advance episodes are shot from when they air, Morton should be done filming Chicago PD season 6 or at least close to it when she starts preparing the play.
But her news means that there could be two of our fandom’s actresses working on Broadway next year. Chicago Med alum Patti Murin is currently starring in the Broadway adaptation of Frozen, which earned a Tony Award nomination for Best Musical.

Glengarry Glen Ross was written by David Mamet, who won the Pulitzer Prize for the play that centers on a group of hard-charging real estate agents who will do just about anything to succeed.
Joe Mantegna (Criminal Minds) earned a Tony Award for the first Broadway production in 1984, while Liev Schreiber (Ray Donovan) was a Tony Award winner for the 2015 revival—which also nabbed the Tony for Best Revival of a Play.
The production was also adapted into a movie in 1992. Here’s a clip from the film version that features Al Pacino, who earned both Golden Globe and Oscar nominations for it:
If you’re in the New York area, One Chicago fans should put this new production on the calendar. It is one of the great plays of American theater, and the direction by Amy Morton will almost certainly be spot on. As Deadline notes, she’s already directed Glengarry Glen Ross once, in 2001 with the Steppenwolf Theatre Company in Chicago.
She knows this play, and she’s also directed numerous other plays at Steppenwolf as well as a 2015 Off-Broadway production of Guards at the Taj for the Atlantic Theater Company. She has plenty of experience as a stage director and will do an outstanding job in her first Broadway gig. We’ll keep you updated as more details and ticket information for Glengarry Glen Ross become available.
