Chicago Med’s Arden Cho celebrates her birthday
Chicago Med recurring guest star Arden Cho celebrates her birthday today, so we’re looking back on her role as Ethan Choi’s wayward sibling Emily Choi.
Today we’re saying happy birthday to Chicago Med actress Arden Cho, one of the newest additions to the One Chicago franchise.
She was introduced during Chicago Med season 3 as Emily Choi, Dr. Ethan Choi’s (Brian Tee) estranged sister.
It was established that Emily had quite the checkered past before April Sexton (Yaya DaCosta) encouraged Choi to reach out to her, but the siblings did indeed reconnect and that became a major subplot in the end of the third season.
Emily began working at the hospital (and spending time at her brother’s apartment), while Choi went and rescued one of her friends from a medical emergency.

But not all was well, as April caught Emily ditching drugs at the apartment, and then Emily became suspect number one when April also discovered drugs had been stolen from the hospital.
And so, Choi was faced with an impossible decision: stand by his still deeply flawed and very ill sister, or side with his upset girlfriend and walk away from Emily after the trouble she had caused.
We won’t know what he decided until the Chicago Med season 4 premiere next month, yet the addition of Arden Cho as Emily Choi definitely livened up the third season.

It was another opportunity for One Chicago fans to look into Choi’s past—something that remained relatively unexplored on the show. Audiences had learned about his military history, but not so much about his family life.
The casting of Teen Wolf alum Cho proved to be great, as well. She and Brian Tee had a believable sibling chemistry, while she was able to show us Emily’s darker side and poor judgment, too. She had the character do unlikeable things without necessarily alienating us from her. See her in part of this clip below:
What comes next for Emily Choi? It feels like we should see her again next season, given that this most recent season ended with her in the hospital, but it wouldn’t be out of the ordinary if we also saw a time jump forward that merely referenced what happened to her. Audiences will have to see if her story continues during the fourth season.
Hopefully it will, because there’s still some unfinished business for Emily and Ethan. Can she ever truly get her act together? It seems unlikely, but Ethan’s earnestness to support her and what that says about him as well are truly compelling, and Arden Cho was the perfect actress to make that storyline work.
These two could do a lot of great things together, if we see Emily again. Don’t forget to read our interview with Brian Tee to get his thoughts on their relationship.
Join us in wishing Arden Cho a happy birthday in the comments! Perhaps she’ll make her return in Chicago Med season 4, starting Sept. 26 on NBC.
