SVU season 20 to premiere at Tribeca TV Festival
Law and Order SVU season 20 is getting some extra push, as New York’s Tribeca TV Festival will host the first screening of the SVU season 20 premiere.
The buzz around the Law and Order SVU season premiere is getting even bigger. The Tribeca TV Festival announced this week that their program this year will feature the first episodes of the new season.
Billed as the “20th Anniversary Celebration,” the event will be the first time the public can see the season premiere. It takes place on Thursday, Sept. 20, which is exactly a week before the episodes airs on NBC.
After the episode is shown to the audience at New York’s Spring Studios, Dick Wolf and the SVU cast will appear for a question and answer session.
That currently includes all of the main cast members: Mariska Hargitay, Philip Winchester, Peter Scanavino, Ice-T and Kelli Giddish. However, as with all live events, fans should be aware that the lineup can change as actors’ schedules change.

It’s not a surprise that the season premiere is getting this treatment; NBC is already getting plenty of miles out of the fact that this is the 20th season, and with it being a two-hour season premiere, it’s a big event on its own anyway.
If you’re in the New York area, this is a great chance for you to not only get an early look at the first two hours of the season—but also hear from the cast and Dick Wolf.

That being said, if you’re not a New York native, you aren’t missing a ton. This premiere is only happening a week ahead of SVU‘s scheduled air date—so it isn’t a huge wait to see the episodes.
But this is somewhat standard promotional stuff for the Dick Wolf universe. In past years, there have been premiere events for both Chicago Med and Chicago Justice as part of the Monte Carlo Television Festival. This year it’s SVU getting the spotlight, and much closer to home, plus right on the nose given that the show takes place in New York.
