Chicago Med’s season 3 DVD set is now available, but is it worth owning? Here’s a look at what is included in the latest Chicago Med DVD set.

Tuesday brought fans Chicago Med season 3 on DVD, courtesy of the folks at Universal Studios Home Entertainment.

Arriving on the same day as the sixth season of Chicago Fire, the set is positioned so that viewers can own the previous season just before the new season begins on Sept. 26. But is it deserving of a spot in your DVD collection?

This box set includes all 20 episodes from the third season, which was abbreviated due to NBC‘s decision to shift Chicago Med from the fall schedule to midseason.

Those episodes include the resolution to the previous season’s cliffhanger (“Speak Your Truth”), a mass shooting episode (“This Is Now”) and another cliffhanger in the finale (“The Tipping Point”).

As far as the season itself goes, it’s a quiet season for Chicago Med, relatively speaking. There’s not a blockbuster episode in the group, and the show was left out of the only crossover that the One Chicago franchise did last year.

Plus, there are three less episodes.

But in regards to the DVD set, this is of the same quality that the previous seasons have been. Both video and audio are decent; it’s not high-definition quality, but it’s more than enough for fans to watch over and over again.

Unfortunately, there’s the same bad news to deliver about this set that there was about the Chicago Fire box set that also came out Tuesday. Universal Studios tends to follow the same template for all the One Chicago DVD releases, and that’s true of this set as well.

As with the other DVD set, Chicago Med season 3 has been incredibly scaled back in terms of what it offers technically. There are less subtitle options and less language tracks for audiences who are international fans; all that’s offered is French subtitles and no alternative audio.

English subtitles are available for those who are hard of hearing.

And because there was no crossover episode for this show this year, there are no special features on this set. Not a one.

So for fans, the only reason to own this set is to have that physical copy of the episodes, and keep your One Chicago collection up to date. It’s not offering anything that you didn’t already see on TV, but it will come in handy once Hulu stops making the episodes available to stream.
