Chicago PD alum Nick Wechsler celebrates his birthday today, so we’re looking at his tenure playing Kenny Rixton and what he’s been doing since.

Today we’re saying happy birthday to Nick Wechsler, whom One Chicago fans will remember for playing Detective Kenny Rixton on Chicago PD.

Rixton was the fill-in for Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) while Ruzek was working undercover during Chicago PD season 4.

When Ruzek eventually resurfaced, Rixton gave up his spot with Intelligence and went on to his next gig—but not before the show revealed that he knew Ruzek’s father “Disco Bob” Ruzek (Jack Coleman).

Kenny Rixton may have only been part of the team for a few weeks, but Nick Wechsler easily was one of our favorite Chicago PD season 4 guest stars, and someone we would be happy to see back in One Chicago.

What has Nick Wechsler been up to since the exit of Kenny Rixton? He hasn’t gone that far at all. In this past TV season, he booked a recurring role as Matthew Blaisdel in The CW‘s recent remake of Dynasty (which did not go well for his character).

If you’re a regular NBC viewer, you’ve also seen him in the recent third (and final) season of the Jennifer Lopez-led crime drama Shades of Blue as another cop, Anthony Cole.

Guess what unit he was working for on that show? Yep, Intelligence again; small world. And again, he turned on his own team after something went badly wrong, just like Rixton did before he got to Voight’s squad.

Nick’s been busy in the past year, and rightfully so; there are a lot of actors who come and go as temporary replacements for our heroes on these shows, but he remains one of the best. He’s an underrated actor who created a character we wanted to know more about on his own—someone we became a fan of in a short period of time.

He more than deserves a return appearance, and every fan should be keeping an eye on what he does next.
