Chicago Med season 4 character preview: Daniel Charles

What will happen

Based on what happened last season, Chicago Med‘s writers are really in love with the Robert Haywood character. They’ve kept him around when he could have died and when he could have not gotten that donor heart. So it feels more likely that Robert will still be alive in the Chicago Med season 4 premiere, and if he is, Charles is going to have to confront/face him at least one more time.

One thing that’s almost certain is that Charles will have to inform Reese about her father’s true nature. It’s too juicy a plot point for the show not to have her find out. When she does, she’s going to be upset with Charles. In this whole situation with her father, she’s been more angry with Charles than Robert, and she’ll be wondering why her boss slash mentor didn’t tell her earlier that her dad killed people.

So Charles is going to have to repair that relationship, somehow. It shouldn’t take that long, as Dr. Charles is a character who’s easy to love and who has a very rational way of explaining his point of view. He should be able to make Reese understand that he was trying to protect her. But it might take a little bit, just for dramatic effect.

Beyond that, expect more of the same from him. He’ll still be on hand to treat the psych cases, as only he and Reese can do that. And with his multiple ex-wives, he’s probably not getting into any romantic subplots any time soon, so the professional front should be all that happens for Charles in Chicago Med season 4.
