What should happen

Now that Severide’s relationship status has been settled, his love life should absolutely not be an issue in Chicago Fire season 7. It doesn’t matter whether or not you ship Stellaride. It matters that the show spent most of two seasons playing with the idea, and that Severide’s romantic history is longer than the beer menu at Molly’s.

Fans have seen enough stories about his love life for a while, and if Chicago Fire has put him back with Stella, the duo deserve to be given an honest chance to be together. There doesn’t need to be any back and forth stuff like what we’ve seen with Brettonio. There’s enough drama simply in Kelly trying to make a serious go of this relationship after two false starts.

With that out of the way, by process of elimination, Chicago Fire has to look at Severide’s life on the job for plot ideas this season. Just because he doesn’t want to be a white shirt doesn’t mean there aren’t stories there.

Severide can be there to support Matthew Casey (Jesse Spencer), both professionally and on a personal level. We did the “Casey’s new rank irritates Severide” thing last season, so that should have passed and we can get back to the Casey and Severide bromance, which has been neglected somewhat with the duo’s respective romances.

Plus, Severide is the only character who has any kind of connection to the new fire commissioner. Grissom has to go down at some point, or at least the team will need to find a way to keep him at bay. Severide’s the best person to do that, because he has history with Grissom. If he can’t appeal to the guy, he at least knows how he thinks. It’s time for Kelly to step up and help take Grissom down.
