Chicago Fire season 7 character preview: Sylvie Brett
What should happen
Monica Raymund’s decision to leave Chicago Fire obviously impacts Sylvie Brett’s storyline during Chicago Fire season 7, because suddenly Brett really does need to get a new partner. Not only that but the hiring of a new paramedic means that Brett has seniority, and thus will become Paramedic in Charge.
That’s a really big change, and the show needs to explore what it means. Brett’s been riding the rig for four years, but relatively speaking that’s not a ton of experience. She still has a lot to learn, as evidenced by how she responded to that traumatic call at the end of last season. What she has not had is time to adjust to Dawson’s departure.
Put those two things together, and Chicago Fire should show Brett having a very difficult time as the season starts. She needs to adjust to being the lead paramedic. It shouldn’t be easy. There’s no shame in Brett stumbling a little or not clicking with her new partner right away. It wouldn’t be realistic if she just returned this season and everything was awesome.
And because that’s such a major shift in her life, that’s where the focus of her storyline should be, at least for the first part of the season. She lost her partner and her friend. Now is not the time to worry about who she’s dating, especially not after the show made a complete disaster of Brett’s reunion with Antonio.
