Carl Weathers is bringing his Chicago Justice character Mark Jefferies to Law and Order SVU season 20, and will appear in the episode airing October 4.

Peter Stone might not come back to One Chicago, but One Chicago is coming to him—when Carl Weathers makes a guest appearance during Law and Order SVU season 20.

Weathers will be playing his Chicago Justice character, State’s Attorney Mark Jefferies, during the Oct. 4 episode called “Zero Tolerance.” Specific details about what Jefferies’ role is in the episode weren’t provided.

News of his guest spot was broken last month when SVU star Mariska Hargitay tweeted a photo of herself with Weathers, but it wasn’t until Wednesday that NBC officially released the synopsis that confirms which episode the actor is in.

Whichever Dick Wolf universe you’re a fan of (or both!) this is big news.

Since Stone (Philip Winchester) moved to New York last season, the big unanswered question is how his exit happened in Chicago. How did he break the news to his team, and how did it affect them?

Bringing Stone back together with his former boss may shed some light on that situation. Plus, unless their relationship was completely wrecked by that choice, it opens the door for Stone to potentially pay his own visit back to Chicago.

Plus, what kind of case is going to be important enough to bring the State’s Attorney all the way to New York? It has to be a whopper—which it sounds like this will be, since the episode’s synopsis talks about “drastic measures” and sex trafficking.

For One Chicago fans, this continues to keep Chicago Justice alive. It’s also great to see Jefferies again, because some of the references made to him since the show was canceled haven’t been flattering.

In the Chicago PD episode “Promise” there’s a scene where Antonio Dawson (Jon Seda) says that he reached out to his former boss “at the State’s Attorney’s Office. He’s afraid to get involved.”

Antonio was referring to either Stone or Jefferies, since he worked directly on Stone’s team, but it’s Jefferies who was the boss of that team. Either way, the description didn’t fit either character. So having Mark Jefferies return helps to change that narrative.

And even if you throw all of the many interesting ways this livens up canon aside, this is still the legendary Carl Weathers, and he’s going to do something fantastic on SVU. Circle Oct. 4 on your calendars.
