Chicago Fire’s Jesse Spencer is One Chicago performer of the week
Chicago Fire star Jesse Spencer is One Chicago Center’s Performer of the Week for Sept. 26, for his work in the Chicago Fire season 7 premiere.
This week’s One Chicago Performer of the Week honors go to Jesse Spencer from Chicago Fire, for his performance as Matthew Casey in “A Closer Eye.”
The Chicago Fire season 7 premiere was Spencer’s showcase, because the episode largely was centered on Casey and how he was affected by the departure of his wife Gabriela Dawson (now former series star Monica Raymund).
One Chicago fans generally knew how that episode was going to go. Of course Casey wouldn’t be okay with Dawson not being there, and of course he was in for getting his heart broken further by the inevitable end of their relationship.
But that just gave Jesse Spencer plenty of screen time, and plenty of emotional material for him to sink his teeth into.

He made it clear just how much Casey was hurting, and how that emotion was clouding his judgment as a firefighter. When Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney) has to give you relationship advice, you know something is very wrong.
But Spencer was spot on throughout the Chicago Fire premiere, all the way until the literal end with that final shot of Casey’s stunned expression while he and Dawson were sharing their final embrace.

He showed so much more without a word, and helped make that scene the emotional moment that Chicago Fire wanted it to be.
Plus, he got to throw himself into an elevator shaft and pretend to be almost crushed to death. That’s an action hero moment if there ever was one. From saving lives to saying goodbye, Jesse Spencer did it all in this opening week of the new One Chicago season while also leaving us wondering what he’ll do next.
