What should fans expect from this week’s Chicago Fire? Find out what to watch for in our Chicago Fire season 7, episode 2 preview.

The next Chicago Fire episode is not only a new episode, but also the start of a three-hour event that unites all three One Chicago series. What should One Chicago fans look for in the first part of the crossover?

It’s interesting to have a crossover so early in the season, because there’s all these new elements that have just been introduced into Firehouse 51, and yet that’s all going to be pushed aside right now while the big event happens.

Wednesday’s episode is called “Going To War” and the focus is on a massive high-rise apartment building fire, which has to be suitably big and terrifying, in order for the fire to have enough effect that it carries over to Chicago Med and Chicago PD.

So expect most of this installment to be focused on that fire, the logistical challenges of fighting it, and some sort of consequence that will be explored further after the fact.

A multi-story fire is obviously incredibly difficult to deal with, because Firehouse 51 will have to clear that much more real estate—and save anyone who may be trapped on those top floors before the fire can reach them.

On top of that, NBC‘s official descriptions of the crossover episodes have already revealed that one of the main characters will be hurt in this fire, which is not a huge surprise.

The crossovers almost always have some kind of a personal connection for the heroes, to make the audience more interested in watching the second and third parts.

But the big question is, how will this Chicago crossover be different from the previous one-night, three-hour event from 2017? In “Deathtrap” the team dealt with a massive warehouse fire that was revealed to be arson and involved someone close to the One Chicago characters.

Now in “Going To War,” Firehouse 51 is dealing with a massive apartment fire that is most likely to be arson (or what would Chicago PD investigate?) and involves someone close to the One Chicago characters. This sounds like a very similar premise to last year, so be on the lookout for ways that the episode sets itself apart from that previous event.

Chicago Fire has the job of laying all the groundwork that will get the fans excited about the story and provide the clues for what comes next. If this were a book, this would be chapter one. So let’s see how much it tries to pack into the hour, hopefully not so much that it forgets what else is still going on at the firehouse.
