What should fans expect from this week’s Chicago PD? Find out what to watch for in our Chicago PD season 6, episode 2 preview.

This week’s Chicago PD episode delivers an end to the Chicago Crossover event, but it could also be an important episode for the continued direction of the show overall.

Wednesday’s episode is called “Endings,” and it’s no spoiler to say that fans can expect a tense confrontation with the man who started the apartment fire at the heart of this crossover. That’s what the whole night has been building toward.

But there could be some other significance to the episode, too, depending on where the writing chooses to go.

Namely, there’s the future of Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer). This is the second time the season has started badly for Halstead.

Last season he accidentally shot and killed a girl, and now this season his father’s caught up in the fire.

And compounding that is the fact that this is a guy who just got out of therapy for post-traumatic stress issues. What is this episode going to do to him? No one could blame Halstead if he just snaps at some point in the hour.

Let’s see how Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos) is able to help her partner while he navigates even more grief.

Fans should also keep in mind that this is an Intelligence team that had two members literally fighting each other last week. If Chicago PD has everyone back to normal with one another, regardless of what Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) said, that’d be a bit ridiculous. If the tension was that high, it’s not going to go away in the very next episode.

Having said that, there’s nothing that gets a team to put their differences aside than having one of their own, or someone close to them, hurt. That’s a common theme not only on this show but also many other TV cop shows.

So will Halstead’s situation cause the team to rally around him, and maybe get some perspective on their current disagreements so that they can start rebuilding their bridges? That would be the logical step to take, but it depends on if the show actually wants to dig deeper into the tension of the Intelligence squad, and doesn’t just bypass it in favor of crossover suspense.

There’s only one way to find out, but what we do know for sure is Jay Halstead will be due some vacation time and probably a hug after this episode.
