What we learned

Let’s have a moment of silence for Pat Halstead (Louis Herthum), who became the next One Chicago family member to have something terrible happen to them this week.

Pat risked his life in an apartment building fire to save a wheelchair-bound friend, which led to him being declared braindead at Chicago Med.

His death follows that of Lexi Olinsky last year in another crossover fire. And the fandom will regret killing him off, because it was only Pat’s second appearance. There was plenty left to explore with his character, especially when he’s played by a talented actor.

But instead, the Halstead brothers are left to mourn the loss of their last remaining parent, and the universe gets a bit smaller. If the crossover had to kill someone, why not a parent who doesn’t contribute anything, like Robert Haywood? Or have a near-death experience, but why kill Pat Halstead before we really got to know him?

What you missed

  • As mentioned above, Pat Halstead was killed off during this week’s Chicago Med.
  • Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) was shot twice on Chicago PD, but one bullet hit his vest and the other went through, so he’s fine.
  • Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) inhaled too much smoke during Chicago Fire, so during Chicago Med she lost a portion of her lung in surgery. But like Halstead, she’ll ultimately be fine.

Everyone freaked out a little when this moment happened. And then felt bad because we recalled that this is the second time Stella has been placed in a life-threatening situation during an “event” in two seasons. She was also on the scene when Otis was shot in Chicago Fire‘s first two-hour movie, though the bullet hit her radio. Stella’s got some terrible luck recently.
