Law and Order SVU ratings report: Week of October 4
How did this week’s Law and Order SVU season 20 episode do in the TV ratings? Here’s the Oct. 4 edition of the SVU ratings report.
With the 20th season of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit season continuing, it’s time for another look at the Dick Wolf series’ TV ratings with the SVU Ratings Report.
This week saw the series settle into its regular time slot of Thursdays at 10 p.m. after it debuted with a super-sized two-hour premiere last week.
Unfortunately, while the 20th season may be a milestone, that’s not giving the show much help in the TV ratings.
Thursday’s installment “Zero Tolerance” was reportedly the lowest-rated episode in the show’s entire history.

It brought in 4.2 million live viewers, which is down by 0.48 (-480,000) from the low end of last week’s two-hour season premiere.
The episode was ranked 10th out of the 17 shows that aired on broadcast TV during Thursday night’s primetime schedule.
Special Victims Unit continued to beat ABC‘s How to Get Away with Murder (3.06 million live), but it also was beaten handily by CBS‘s SWAT (5.25 million).

What happened to cause series low ratings? One possible factor is that SVU‘s new lead-in is NBC’s freshman comedy I Feel Bad.
Not only is it a new show, so it doesn’t bring an established audience, but it’s a comedy—which is the farthest thing from compatible to a serious drama about sex crimes. Not only that but it hasn’t gotten a lot of pre-premiere interest, either; it has a 27 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
In other Dick Wolf series news, CBS continues to enjoy steady success with FBI. That series saw a small 7 percent drop in its audience between its first and second weeks, with an audience of over 9 million live viewers on Tuesday.
