What should fans expect from this week’s Chicago Med? Find out what to watch for in our Chicago Med season 4, episode 3 preview.
This week’s episode of Chicago Med sets up a dangerous situation at the hospital, so what could possibly be in store for our favorite doctors and nurses?
Wednesday’s episode is entitled “Heavy Is The Head,” and based on the promotional teaser that NBC released for the installment last week, it’s another installment where unreal levels of drama hit the Emergency Department.
The video shows an upset parent taking hostages when he gets unfortunate news about his son’s health.
This is similar to a storyline on Chicago PD. In the 2015 episode “Actual Physical Violence,” a man distraught over his son’s situation took Mouse (Sam Hunt) hostage.

And the firefighters and paramedics of Chicago Fire also had their own hostage situation in the episode “Telling Her Goodbye” from season five, when gang members invaded Firehouse 51.
So how is Chicago Med going to do this storyline any differently from its predecessors?

For starters, the character Med has decided to put at the center of this plot is Dr. Ethan Choi (Brian Tee). Of all the main characters, Choi is the best possible one to handle this situation.
He’s shown time and time again that he’s the most calm and level-headed of the staff, plus his time in the Navy means he’s got experience dealing with some pretty serious stuff. He’s probably not going to be fazed by a guy with a gun, and he’s got the demeanor to talk the man down.
It’s too bad Jeff Hephner isn’t guest starring anymore, because Jeff Clarke would come in handy with this storyline!
For two, Choi is also involved in one of the episode’s subplots, too. He and Dr. Natalie Manning (Torrey DeVitto) have a conflict with Elsa Currie (recurring guest star Molly Bernard), the medical student whose last appearance involved her refusing to do work she thought was beneath her.
Let’s hope that Elsa doesn’t somehow get involved in the A-story and make it more complicated, because her complete lack of people skills would be exactly the thing to push a gun-toting man over the edge. But if nothing else, maybe the Elsa storyline will provided a little levity to balance out the hostage story, and take this episode in its own unique direction.
If you’re a fan of Choi, or Brian Tee, then this is an episode that you’ll definitely enjoy. Tee always turns in great performances in his feature episodes, and this should be no exception. Let’s just hope it has a happy ending.
