What should fans watch for in this week’s Chicago PD? Get ready for tonight’s episode with our Chicago PD season 6, episode 3 preview.

The next episode of Chicago PD has a more compelling subplot than case of the week. How will that affect Wednesday’s episode?

Wednesday’s installment is called “Bad Boys,” and not to take anything away from stopping some bank robbers, but the real hook for the hour is in what happens off the street.

With the crossover out of the way, the show is circling back to a subplot that it set up in the first episode of this season: that Alvin Olinsky (Elias Koteas) is still on the hook for the murder of Kevin Bingham, even though he’s dead.

Because he was charged with a crime, even though he never went to trial, Olinsky’s family cannot collect his pension. And that’s a problem Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) is going to deal with.

The question is, how can Voight prove that Olinsky is innocent?

He certainly can’t tell the truth, because that would be implicating himself as Bingham’s real killer. And then Chicago PD would pretty much be over, unless it became the Chicago version of White Collar.

So Voight has a balancing act of convincing the brass at the Chicago Police Department that Olinsky wasn’t the killer, without giving his own guilt away. It won’t be easy.

To that end, Voight will have to turn to the one old friend he has left: Trudy Platt (Amy Morton). This is good news for everyone, because One Chicago fans can all agree that there has been a very big lack of Platt for the last season or so. Anything that makes her a bigger part of the episode is great news.

It poses a very interesting question, because is Olinsky’s story going to be a long-term part of the sixth season? Chicago PD hurt a lot of fans by killing him, so having his name continue to come up feels like the show is just constantly reminding us of his death.

The best thing to do in a situation like this is to wrap the storyline up efficiently, and allow both the show and the fans to move on. While closure for Olinsky is important, the series shouldn’t drag it out just to create more drama this season. No one needs to see that happen. So will this be where everyone gets closure? Watch and find out.
