Teddy Sears joins Chicago Fire season 7 in recurring role
Chicago Fire season 7 has recruited 24: Legacy veteran Teddy Sears to play a recurring character with ties to Annie Ilonzeh’s Emily Foster.
While Chicago Fire continues to establish the character of Emily Foster, the series has hired its first character from her past.
According to multiple media reports, Teddy Sears will guest star in the sixth episode of Chicago Fire season 7 (so two weeks from now) in a role that’s going to be recurring for more than one episode.
Sears plays Firehouse 51’s new chaplain, Kyle Sheffield. Sheffield comes to the firehouse when his predecessor, Orlovsky (guest star Gordon Clapp) decides to retire.
But like many new arrivals to the firehouse, he comes bearing a past with one of the team.

Sheffield shares an unspecified history with Foster, which will undoubtedly come out through the new character’s guest appearances.
So maybe he can explain why she gave up being a doctor to become a paramedic? Or why everyone who recognizes her seems to be surprised?

One Chicago fans will recognize Teddy Sears from previous TV roles: he played Keith Mullins, the head of CTU, in FOX‘s 24: Legacy.
He also recurred as Dr. Austin Langham in almost two dozen episodes of Showtime‘s Masters of Sex, and 19 episodes of The CW‘s The Flash as the villain Zoom.
Here’s a video of Sears as he discusses his character Keith Mullins from 24: Legacy, to give fans an idea of who he is and one of his past roles:
Chicago Fire certainly isn’t wasting any time writing in more about Emily Foster, now that it’s clear the character is sticking around permanently.
What’s interesting is how they’re approaching her history. There’s been quite a few new recurring players who have shown up with connections to Firehouse 51’s existing staff. They include Jason Kannell (Kamal Angelo Bolden), who was friends with Matthew Casey (Jesse Spencer), and Scott Rice (Warren Christie), who knew Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney).
So what’s going to make Sheffield different? Hopefully the show doesn’t take the obvious route, and make him just Foster’s ex-boyfriend. We’ll see in two weeks.
