Chicago Fire season 7 enlists NCIS: Los Angeles’s Tye White
Chicago Fire has recruited NCIS: Los Angeles actor Tye White to guest star in multiple Chicago Fire season 7 episodes. Get the details on his role here.
Two of TV’s franchises are trading actors again, as NCIS: Los Angeles alum Tye White will be joining Chicago Fire later this season.
White’s character, who’s only referred to by his first name Tyler, is described as “a former athlete turned college scout” in reports from Deadline.
There’s no mention of when his first episode will air, but his role is referred to as being recurring, so White will appear in more than one episode.
The question is how does a college recruiter have anything to do with Firehouse 51?

The relevance of Tye White’s character isn’t readily apparent. There’s very few teenagers seen on the show, so it doesn’t sound like Tyler would come to Chicago Fire trying to recruit someone, unless we’re about to bring a character back—like Chief Boden’s (Eamonn Walker) stepson James.
But if not that, how does he factor into any kind of plot? Is he going to be someone else the team runs into during a fire or rescue call?
We’ve certainly seen that; just recently, Joe Cruz (Joe Minoso) met his new love interest while saving her from a fire during the Chicago Crossover.

What we do know is that Tye White is the second actor to recently move between the One Chicago franchise and the NCIS franchise.
Over the summer hiatus, Chicago PD guest star Esai Morales was hired to play a new high-ranking officer on NCIS: Los Angeles. White has been seen in three episodes of NCIS: Los Angeles as Aiden Hanna, Sam Hanna’s (LL Cool J) son.
He comes to One Chicago with an existing Chicago Fire connection: White was a series regular for the first three seasons of OWN’s Greenleaf, which stars Merle Dandridge. Before Walker was cast, Dandridge was the original chief of Firehouse 51.
