What should fans watch for in this week’s Chicago Fire? Get ready for tonight’s episode with our Chicago Fire season 7, episode 4 preview.

The next episode of Chicago Fire could be a blast, literally.

Wednesday’s episode is called “That Ain’t Charity” and the main story involves Firehouse 51 trying to handle a series of explosions throughout the city. But that premise isn’t specific enough for One Chicago fans to know how serious it will be.

Are we talking about some kind of serial bomber, like was seen in last season’s crossover episodes with Chicago PD?

Could these be accidental explosions, such as people who don’t know not to mix those chemicals and then things blow up? We’ve also seen those depicted on the show, too.

Depending on which direction the script takes, fans could see an entirely different episode. It could be a serious thriller hunting for a madman, or it could be a comedy of errors.

And there’s no way to tell, based on what details NBC has made available for this episode.

At least we do know that the episode will provide some great visuals, because after six-plus seasons, the effects crew on Chicago Fire have gotten great at blowing things up and setting things on fire.

Something else to monitor in “This Isn’t Charity” is the expanding role for Christopher Herrmann (David Eigenberg).

For one, more of David Eigenberg is a good thing in any situation. But for two, this isn’t the first time that the show has depicted Herrmann trying to tackle a new kind of job description.

He was attempting to get himself promoted a few seasons ago, until his temper got the better of him and he wound up losing the opportunity. So will this time go better than the first? Can he take on additional responsibilities, or is he just comfortable being where he is? It’ll be interesting to see if and how he changes here.

That is, if he’s not almost getting blown up, given the show’s tendency to put Herrmann in the line of fire more often than not.
