Chicago PD season 6, episode 4 takeaways: Ride Along
What should fans take away from the latest Chicago PD? Learn more about this week’s episode with our Chicago PD season 6, episode 4 review.
What did One Chicago fans learn from this week’s Chicago PD episode? Here’s what we took away from this week’s installment, “Ride Along.”
“Ride Along” saw Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati) in trouble after she lost a VIP’s daughter while on a call, then in more trouble when she decided to lie about it rather than tell the truth. It wasn’t a good week for her, or Burzek fans.
If you missed any of last night’s episode, or just want a refresher on the events that we’re going to discuss, you can catch up with our Chicago PD recap.
Below are our takeaways from this week’s episode:

1) Burgess blew it
Sorry, Burgess fans, but Kim really screwed up in this episode—which felt out of character for somebody who’s supposed to be climbing her way up within the Intelligence Unit.
Burgess has followed Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) and his advice to the point that she chose helping Voight even when it hurt her boyfriend last season.
But now all of a sudden, she’s going to listen to Katherine Brennan (Anne Heche)? Is it because that’s the deputy superintendent, or is it because Brennan sold her a line about being a “female hero”?
Either way, it didn’t feel right. Either Burgess felt intimidated by Brennan’s rank, or her ego was fed by the other woman’s spiel—but neither option sounds like Kim Burgess in Chicago PD season 6. If she was still a patrol officer, this plot would’ve been plausible, but the Burgess who’s more cynical and more mature wouldn’t do what she did here.

2) We still need more Atwater and more Platt
The additional scenes for Kevin Atwater (LaRoyce Hawkins) and Trudy Platt (Amy Morton) in “Ride Along” just reinforced how Chicago PD has been underusing them. Both were well utilized during this episode as they tried to help Burgess; they didn’t have a ton of screen time, but when they did turn up on screen, they left an impact.
There could’ve been a chance to do something with Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger), too, since he has experience in being pressured by higher-ups. Unfortunately, while they had a good scene in the opening, most of Ruzek’s focus in this episode was either on Antonio Dawson (Jon Seda) or flirting with his new love interest Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos). Missed opportunity for sure.
3) Is Antonio the new Severide?
Chicago PD revealed in “Ride Along” that Antonio has an injured shoulder and is taking prescription pain medication for it. There are so many questions here, but mostly: Haven’t we seen this before?
One Chicago fans will remember that Chicago Fire opened with Kelly Severide (Taylor KInney) also having an injured shoulder, one that was so hurt he was willing to sleep with a drug rep to get the pills he needed.
We can see the storyline that Chicago PD season 6 wants to tell here—that being a cop can wear on someone physically, especially in a high-risk job like Intelligence. But One Chicago has done this already. And turning Antonio into someone either covering up an injury, or becoming an addict, or both just adds to the fair amount of melodrama this season already has.
There’s not any significant upside to this story, unless the show wants to say that Antonio’s issue actually started when he brawled with Ruzek, and then Ruzek can feel badly about it and/or help his colleague. Otherwise, this is a big red flag.
