Chicago Med’s Halstead twist is One Chicago moment of the week
Chicago Med turning Will Halstead into a confidential informant is One Chicago Center’s moment of the week for Oct. 17, from Chicago Med season 4.
This week’s One Chicago Moment of the Week honors go to Chicago Med, for leaving viewers in a pickle when Dr. Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) agreed to work for the cops at the end of this week’s episode “Backed Against The Wall.”
What makes this the most talk-worthy moment of the week isn’t that it’s the best scene; in fact, it’s the exact opposite. This was a surprising scene that could potentially mix up the entire rest of the season.
On the surface, Will agreeing to inform on a neighborhood businessman for a joint task force of the Chicago Police Department and the FBI sounds kind of cool. It certainly will provide plenty of drama.
But One Chicago fans might also be remembering that this is Chicago Med, not Chicago PD, and the two don’t always mesh.

It’s hard not to think back to last season, when the show got taken over by another criminal subplot as Dr. Daniel Charles (Oliver Platt) realized that Robert Haywood (Michel Gill) was a murderer.
That storyline made up a large part of the second half of last season, which made it more frustrating because it really didn’t fit.
It would have been perfect for Chicago PD, but it didn’t mesh with the rest of Med at all, and the season struggled a bit because so much screen time was devoted to Robert’s plot.
So what will make this storyline any different? Why is Med so interested in weaving in these stories that are unrelated?

Even if you put that aside and just go along for the ride, this could be a problematic point for the show given its effect on Will’s engagement to Dr. Natalie Manning (Torrey DeVitto). It’s unrealistic to think that it won’t do damage to their relationship.
If Natalie needed a break from Will after he tried to do something to protect her, how will she react when she finds out he lied to her earlier in this episode? Here’s a hint: obviously not well.
And that’s if Will doesn’t somehow get his cover blown, leading to him being in peril. He could be abducted, threatened, beaten up or shot. And if that doesn’t happen, his wedding venue is owned by the guy he’s informing on, so the series could conceivably ruin the Manstead ceremony that a lot of fans are looking forward to with some sort of police raid.
Any way you slice it, this plot twist is bad news all the way around—for Will, for his relationship and for the One Chicago fans. Nick Gehlfuss (and Jesse Lee Soffer) will be great in it, but let’s hope Med resists the temptation for more melodrama because it just opened Pandora Box’s here.
Congratulations to Chicago Med for having our Moment of the Week! Which moment was the most memorable to you this week? Let us know in the comments!
