Chicago PD season 6, episode 5 preview: Fathers and Sons
What should fans watch for in this week’s Chicago PD? Get ready for tonight’s episode with our Chicago PD season 6, episode 5 preview.
The next episode of Chicago PD is finally putting the spotlight on Adam Ruzek, but is it going to be the episode Ruzek fans have been waiting for? Or just make his life even worse?
As has been discussed numerous times on this site, a variety of factors have contributed to make Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) severely underdeveloped over the last few seasons.
Flueger was absent for a large chunk of the fourth season. When he did come back, the show had no opportunity to move his character forward, because Marina Squerciati departed on maternity leave.
So there wasn’t a chance to resolve anything with Ruzek and Kim Burgess. Then last season, he got more screen time when he was working for Denny Woods (Mykelti Williamson), but that was wrapped up fairly easily.

It feels like the writers don’t know what to do with Adam Ruzek, but “Fathers and Sons” might be able to fix that issue.
The whole plot of the episode involves the return of “Disco Bob” Ruzek (the underrated Jack Coleman). Is he a bad guy now? Or still just a misunderstood cop? And how will Adam react to his dad now, that could be different from his first appearance seasons ago?
A lot has changed for Adam since his dad was first introduced. He’s not the same person.
And at the same time, maybe his father can help him sort himself out. The most that’s going on for Adam is his fling with Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos), and that still feels utterly random.
He needs a sense of direction, some kind of purpose that lasts for more than an episode or two, and maybe having his dad back in the picture will force him to look at it a little more closely.

Elsewhere in this episode, Chicago PD owes viewers some more information about what’s going on with Antonio Dawson (Jon Seda). What are we supposed to take away from the reveal that he is taking painkillers for a shoulder injury?
Is it just that Antonio is a bit hypocritical for telling his teammates not to lie, while also lying about his health? Is the show trying to do some kind of addiction storyline? (Hopefully not.) Whatever it is, it’s not clear—and whatever happens, Ruzek could be useful there, too.
He’s had tension with Antonio all season. He could either be the perfect person to catch on and call Antonio out (since he has no problem doing that), or maybe he understands a bit more since he’s going through his own stuff, and becomes an unlikely ally.
Either way, Patrick John Flueger fans should enjoy this episode because if nothing else, it will give him a chance to shine. Watch a clip below as Ruzek discovers something important about his case that could affect his dad:
