What should fans watch for in this week’s Law and Order SVU? Get ready for tonight’s episode with our SVU season 20, episode 7 preview.

The most intriguing thing about the next episode of Law & Order: SVU is that it features another reunion from Dick Wolf‘s other franchise.

“Caretaker” features another One Chicago character making an appearance in the series. This time it’s Billy O’Boyle, the hard-charging defense attorney played by Gary Basaraba (Boomtown).

He was a tough opponent for Peter Stone (Philip Winchester) during the one and only season of Chicago Justice, and now he’s come to New York for another round.

That makes him the second Chicago Justice character to show up during SVU season 20, after Carl Weathers reprised his role as State’s Attorney Mark Jefferies in “Zero Tolerance.”

He’s also the second defense attorney to come over from that series; Christopher Wiehl previously also reprised his role in last season’s “Service.”

The return of O’Boyle should be interesting because he was set up to be a recurring nemesis for Peter, so the two are more evenly matched. And also, again, it becomes a question of how his character has come to the Big Apple from the Windy City.

But our guess is Peter won’t be buying him any drinks at the end of this episode.

“Caretaker” also has two other guest stars for SVU fans to keep an eye on.

One is Sandrine Holt, who’s reprising her role as psychologist Lisa Abernathy in another episode. Hopefully in addition to providing her expertise on the case, she can start talking to the detectives about their various personal issues!

The other is Sasha Alexander, who played Kate Todd in the early seasons of CBS‘s NCIS and had a long-running role playing Dr. Maura Isles in TNT‘s Rizzoli & Isles (opposite Law & Order alum Angie Harmon). Watch her in a scene from the episode below opposite Mariska Hargitay:
