Chicago Fire and Chicago PD producers taking over FBI
Chicago Fire’s Derek Haas and Chicago PD’s Rick Eid are now splitting their time between One Chicago and Dick Wolf’s newest series FBI.
Two of the biggest names in One Chicago are dividing their time between the franchise and Dick Wolf‘s latest TV series FBI.
Derek Haas, the co-creator and showrunner of Chicago Fire, and Chicago PD executive producer and showrunner Rick Eid have been hired to split the top duties on the CBS crime drama.
This marks the third showrunner(s) on the freshman series, which was recently picked up for a complete first season by the Eye. Craig Turk (The Good Wife) was the original showrunner; he was then replaced by Greg Plageman (Person of Interest), who has now stepped down.
Why is this important to One Chicago fans? Because it means the people in charge of two of the three shows in the franchise aren’t focused solely on these shows anymore. Now they’re going to be spending some of their time and effort working on another series.

That may or may not have any effect on Chicago PD and Chicago Fire.
Since Haas and Eid are working on FBI together, they have a better chance of keeping things balanced than if one of them was trying to take on a whole second show on their own.

Each of them is only assuming a portion of the showrunning responsibilities for the Missy Peregrym and Zeeko Zaki-led series.
And with TV show production always a few episodes ahead of what viewers are watching, Fire and PD are probably about halfway through their seasons. Eid and Haas could have enough planned out that they have the flexibility to help out FBI.
But it’s also a big challenge for them to work on two shows at the same time. They’re not just coming aboard to be extra producers, or to write an episode or two—they’ve been hired to run the entire series. That’s the single most important job on a TV set, so it’s going to take a fair amount of time and hard work.
It’s also possible that Haas and Eid having to devote time to FBI means that they have to scale back some things they might have done for One Chicago. The only way to know is to really see how this move unfolds in the next few months.
Yet the Dick Wolf project has already had some ups and downs; aside from the multiple changes in showrunners, it recast the supervisor role played by Connie Nielsen and hired Sela Ward. For those viewers who are already fans—which there are many, since the show has been solid in the ratings for CBS—these two veteran producers could also provide stability.
