What should fans watch for in this week’s Chicago Fire? Get ready for tonight’s episode with our Chicago Fire season 7, episode 7 preview.
The next episode of Chicago Fire will probably result in plenty of tears, not only for the audience but for Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney). But just how sad of an episode will this be?
Wednesday’s episode, called “What Will Define You,” picks up Chicago Fire‘s story with everyone still processing the death of Severide’s father (Treat Williams). Not to mention, the incredible act of kindness he did for all of Firehouse 51 just before his stroke.
However, that’s about all One Chicago fans know about this installment, because NBC is playing it very close to the vest when it comes to details.
The network is so closely guarding the plot of this episode that it didn’t even release the usual promotional photos this week. Usually, that’s a sign that there’s going to be a major event or a big spoiler that they don’t want getting out in advance.

Is it just Benny Severide’s funeral? Or could there be something else?
It could go either way, because one thing we do know for sure is that Brittany Curran is returning to Chicago Fire for the first time since her character Katie Nolan was written out seasons ago.
She’s being joined by Kim Delaney, who is returning as Jennifer Sheridan, Benny’s ex-wife and Kelly’s mom.

Those reveals make sense since obviously both of their characters would want to be in attendance at Benny’s funeral.
But they’re also big news, especially the return of Katie, who hasn’t been seen in years and hasn’t really been mentioned since she moved away.
What is she doing now? How will she be there to support her half-brother? Will we learn any more about her, or will her purpose in the episode basically be to serve his story? There’s room to learn a lot this week, if Chicago Fire is willing to take the time to explore a little bit further.
Because this is a Severide episode, “What Will Define You” is also a Stellaride-heavy episode. Look for Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) to be there for her boyfriend when he needs her the most. But let’s hope that Stellaride doesn’t eclipse Kelly spending important time with his family, because they matter to him just as much as his relationship.
It will also be interesting to see if Chicago Fire drops any hints in this episode about what comes next for Firehouse 51. Since Jerry Gorsch (Stephen Boyer) was booted out of the firehouse, is it smooth sailing from here on out? That seems unlikely, so will there be clues about the next thing Carl Grissom might do to get under their skin?
In fact, will Grissom (Gary Cole) show up at Benny’s funeral since the two were friends? It’d be nice to see Gary Cole since he hasn’t appeared all season. There’s a lot that can be done with this plot, if the show is willing and able to pull it all off.
