What should fans watch for in this week’s Chicago PD? Get ready for tonight’s episode with our Chicago PD season 6, episode 7 preview.

There are a lot of ways the next Chicago PD could be interesting, and a lot of ways that it could go into some controversial territory. So which should One Chicago fans expect?

Wednesday’s episode “Trigger” concerns the bombing of an Army recruitment center, which will automatically make it a poignant episode for dealing with an attack against a U.S. military office.

It’s similar to the plot from the Law & Order episode “Crimebusters.” That Dick Wolf series also had an Army recruitment office bombed, except there were a woman and her baby in it.

That episode wound up being particularly twisty and revealing that the alleged victim was part of the bombing, and there’s no indication Chicago PD is going to go that way. However, its initial idea could be even more thorny.

The initial suspect is the leader of a Chicago mosque. Religion is another sensitive subject to write about and then to have the religious official be a suspect in a violent attack? That might raise the eyebrows of some viewers.

It should be noted that the show has played this idea before, when the episode “Sanctuary” featured a priest who wouldn’t turn suspects over to the police. But that’s a little bit different than having the priest suspected of committing the crime.

The plot will likely take a few turns of its own (it’s not often the first suspect is the actual perpetrator), but it’s worth watching how Chicago PD is going to handle not one but two sensitive subjects—and combining them into one episode.

Those concerns aside, “Trigger” is going to return to the well of Jay Halstead’s (Jesse Lee Soffer) experience as an Army Ranger. For all the talk about it on the show, it’s never been explored that well. The closest we’ve come is his monologue in “Care Under Fire” but there’s so much more that could be talked about, especially since the show has emphasized how deeply it affected him.

Will we learn any more about his past in this episode? Will we get any more good scenes between Halstead and his partner Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos) since their partnership has been pushed more into the background in favor of Upton’s relationship? Last week’s episode showed that they are still doing their best to support each other, so it would stand to reason Upton will be there to help Jay if he needs it.

And what about Antonio Dawson (Jon Seda)? Photos released by NBC for this episode show that Antonio has a big role, too; he hasn’t had much to do since the season premiere, and fans still have no explanation for his shoulder injury.

“Trigger” could clarify a lot about the show and be one of the more meaningful episodes—if it goes the extra mile and decides to tell a story that’s about its characters first, including those who are affected by the bombing.
