What should fans watch for in this week’s Chicago PD? Get ready for tonight’s episode with our Chicago PD season 6, episode 8 preview.

Fans of Chicago PD should be excited about this week’s episode, because it centers on the much underused Kevin Atwater (LaRoyce Hawkins).

Atwater hasn’t gotten a tremendous amount of screen time this season, so it’s good news that he will finally get his own Chicago PD season 6 episode. But how it plays out, well, that is something fans will want to keep an eye on.

After all, the last few scripts to focus on Kevin Atwater haven’t treated him well. Last season, he was abducted. The season before that, he had to send his siblings away to Texas.

Then there was the time he was put on trial for a suspect’s death on Chicago Justice. So while we’re excited that this episode will give him more to do, we also don’t want it to be another hard episode for him, either.

One thing that’s already been revealed in the promo is that “Black and Blue” gives Atwater a love interest, played by Milauna Jackson.

You might recognize her from playing Kim Martinez in the final season of Cinemax’s Strike Back, where she not only helped save the world but also had a flirtation with Michael Stonebridge (played by future Chicago Justice star Philip Winchester).

She also recurred on ABC‘s How To Get Away With Murder during the third season, as tough-as-nails lawyer Renee Atwood.

So for Chicago PD to bring her in is a casting coup, and it also means she’s going to play a character who is no pushover. Hopefully their relationship will make it through this episode, and she won’t turn into this season’s version of Camila.

The intersection between policing and the community isn’t something that this show has gone into as much as it should, and the fact that Atwater thinks about it is one of the aspects that has made his character stand out. He’s always aware of consequences and costs.

If “Black and Blue” really digs into that, and presents Atwater with a serious moral dilemma that the audience can see both sides of, this could be one of the best episodes of the season. It could also remind fans that Chicago PD can discuss more than just the case of the week.

But if nothing else, let’s cross our fingers that Kevin Atwater gets out of this okay. Watch a clip from the episode below before tuning in tonight to get the full story:
