Monica Barbaro’s The Good Cop canceled by Netflix
The Good Cop, starring Chicago Justice alum Monica Barbaro, won’t be getting a second season at Netflix. Get the details on The Good Cop’s cancellation.
Bad news for fans of Chicago Justice actress Monica Barbaro: her current series, The Good Cop, was canceled by Netflix this week.
The network announced the cancellation to Deadline, saying, “The Good Cop will not return for a second season.
“We’re grateful to creator Andy Breckman and his fellow producers, writers, the incredible crew and especially stars Tony Danza and Josh Groban for bringing this classic odd couple father-son story to Netflix.”
The Good Cop starred Danza and Groban as a father and son, who were both New York cops with different approaches. Tony Caruso Sr. (Danza) was a disgraced ex-cop who moved in with his son after getting out from behind bars.

Tony Caruso Jr. (Groban in his first TV series regular role) was the straight-laced head of an NYPD unit, who had a “will they, won’t they” dynamic going with Monica Barbaro’s character, the hard-nosed Cora Vasquez.
Isiah Whitlock Jr. and Bill Kottkamp also starred in the part-comedy, part-drama, which was adapted from an Israeli TV show by Andy Breckman (Monk).
Like Monk, the show mixed comedy with drama as the characters investigated quirky crimes. The show also had an ongoing mystery from the characters’ past, which now won’t be resolved due to Netflix’s decision not to order a second season.

It’s more bad news for Monica Barbaro, because it’s the second consecutive show she’s been on that hasn’t gotten a second season. Chicago Justice only lasted one cycle on NBC when there was a real estate crunch on the network schedule.
The good news is that she has other projects in the works. She’ll appear in a supporting role in the movie sequel Top Gun: Maverick, which is in pre-production now and scheduled to hit theaters in 2020.
And the entire first season of The Good Cop is still available on Netflix for anyone who hasn’t seen it yet. It’s worth it if you’re a fan of Monica’s, because she really is excellent in it, and gets to show off her comedic side. Rewatch the trailer below:
