What should fans watch for in this week’s Law and Order SVU? Get ready for tonight’s episode with our SVU season 20, episode 9 preview.

This week’s episode of Law & Order: SVU could be one that audiences end up talking about well after it’s over, depending on how things go for Peter Stone.

Thursday’s episode “Mea Culpa” sees Stone (Philip Winchester) being accused of sexual assault, and anyone who’s followed the character from the One Chicago universe knows that’s way out of character for him.

Unless, of course, this episode is going to create a previously unknown incident from his past that it reveals and surprises everyone with.

It’s impossible to tell, which is what makes this an episode to really keep an eye on. It could wind up totally changing the way that the audience looks at Peter, or it could end up being just another case of the week.

And that’s no small distinction. Peter might be the new character on the block, but this is something that could fundamentally change his character.

He was built up in the One Chicago canon as a really good person, and SVU would be wise not to destroy that (especially given that the show has already dented his armor with what happened in the season premiere).

Not only because it’d be messing with a great character, but because what would that do for his credibility as a prosecutor? As last week’s episode showed, an ADA’s reputation can effect all of the cases that they’ve touched.

So it’s not just Peter Stone that’s at risk here. This episode could have an effect on the whole show.

Having said that, there’s something else to know about “Mea Culpa,” and that’s the fact that the episode is directed by SVU star and producer Mariska Hargitay. As not only an actor but the star of the show, she knows how this series works better than pretty much anybody, and she’ll also have an understanding of character development from the actor’s perspective. She’s got the perfect eye to keep this episode on track.

Plus, she still has some good scenes as Olivia Benson, one of which you can see right now in this sneak peek clip below. Play the video to watch it, and then tune in tonight for the full episode and the full truth about what’s happening here.
