Ranking One Chicago’s new characters
6. Naomi Graham
Naomi Graham (Kate Villanova) has only been in three episodes of Chicago Fire, but all of her appearances have been fairly polarizing. She’s supposed to be an investigative reporter, yet most of her investigative work has been asking Matthew Casey (Jesse Spencer) for help. One Chicago viewers have only gotten to see brief glimpses of her working on her own, so it seems like she’s looking at Casey to do all the heavy lifting.
But that’s not all she’s looking at him for. Chicago Fire introduced Naomi as a new love interest for the recently divorced Casey, which One Chicago audience members have every right to be annoyed with. No chemistry has been built up between the two; by the end of her first episode Naomi was already fawning over him, and in the second she was kissing him. Now, already, Casey “can’t stop thinking about her”? We’re not buying it. Whether you’re a Dawsey shipper or not doesn’t change the fact that Naomi is one-dimensional.
5. Katherine Brennan
The Chicago PD season 6 premiere introduced Katherine Brennan (Anne Heche), the politically minded Deputy Superintendent who’s trying to make an ally out of Hank Voight (Jason Beghe). But Brennan has never fit in with the rest of the Chicago PD cast. Voight has had dealings with quite a few different people, and compared to characters like Ray Price or even Denny Woods, she doesn’t have the same pop.
Heche, who recently starred in NBC‘s The Brave, is a fine actress but has yet to shine in this role. At least while Brennan can be a pain, she has also done things to help Intelligence, too. When the team discovered that an Alderman had murdered his wife in “Black and Blue” she set up the sting that led to his arrest. That shows she has some kind of moral code and a little more depth; now all we need is for Chicago PD to explore it.
