2. Ritter

One Chicago has had a revolving door of firefighters, from Scott Rice to Jason Kannell and now Ritter (Daniel Kyri). But Ritter seems like he’s staying, with Chicago Fire having brought him into Firehouse 51 for at least this season. Hopefully he’ll make it, because the guy has been great in how he’s transformed from terrified candidate into a solid part of the team.

With Mouch (Christian Stolte) and the guys often being used for comic relief, it’s been a lovely change of pace to see them in this more serious plot where they’ve built up Ritter’s confidence and are showing him the ropes. He has the potential to become a really good firefighter, and the audience can identify with his story of struggling in a profession he wants so desperately to do well in. Plus, he’s got an adorable puppy! Ritter’s fortunes are looking up, and Chicago Fire has made us want to see where he goes next.

1. Emily Foster

It’s not a surprise that Emily Foster (Annie Ilonzeh) is tops on our list. She’s the only new series regular this season, so Chicago Fire has naturally been giving her more screen time and putting her best foot forward, because viewers have to embrace the character. She’s the one who will definitely be back if there’s a Chicago Fire season 8.

But that bias aside, Foster has proven to mesh well within the Firehouse 51 ensemble. She has shown plenty of moxie and the same outspoken attitude of her predecessor Gabriela Dawson. She has a mysterious backstory that the show is teasing audiences with. She also started to build a friendship with Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney), even though the show put the kibosh on it in favor of Stellaride. Plus, she’s let us see how Brett functions a senior partner. Foster’s doing pretty well so far, and she should only get better.
