Chicago Fire co-creator Derek Haas is having his novel The Silver Bear developed into a movie, with a big-name actor attached to star as Columbus.

When Derek Haas isn’t working on Chicago Fire, he’s an accomplished novelist—and one of his novels is now on its way to becoming a feature film.

Lionsgate is developing Haas’ first book, The Silver Bear, for the big screen according to a report by Deadline. The 2008 book introduces the character of Columbus, who becomes a contract killer with no equal.

There have been four other books in the Silver Bear series, the most recent being The Way I Die, which came out in April.

This is still early in the development process; Lionsgate bought the rights to adapt the Silver Bear series into movies last summer, and now they’re just starting to move forward with the details of making a film. But who they have attached to the project should get One Chicago fans excited.

Michael B. Jordan, who’s returning to theaters now with the highly anticipated sequel Creed 2 and co-starred in the critically acclaimed Black Panther, is set to play Columbus in The Silver Bear.

Jordan is also serving as a producer on the movie through his production company Outlier Society.

The actor has shot to fame in recent years with blockbuster projects like Creed (part of the Rocky franchise) and Black Panther (part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe).

But before he became a household name, Jordan had already established himself as an outstanding actor. His performance as in the 2013 drama Fruitvale Station was critically acclaimed, with the National Board of Review giving him its Breakthrough Actor Award. Before that, he played Vince Howard for the final two seasons of Friday Night Lights.

He’s an excellent choice to lead the film, which Lionsgate will obviously hope to develop into a series of its own if the first one does well.

And seeing Derek Haas’ novel on the big screen is great news. If you haven’t read any of the Silver Bear novels, you’re missing out; they’re wonderful thrillers and should make for good movies, as we’ve seen plenty of films about hitmen and other one-man armies (see: American Assassin, the Taken series).

We’ll keep a close eye on this story and bring you the latest about Derek Haas’ film adaptations. People who’ve enjoyed Chicago Fire will no doubt get a kick out of seeing The Silver Bear at their local movie theater.
