3. Stellaride will be on the outs

While Casey will be enjoying new love with Naomi, we’re predicting some tension between the show’s new first couple, Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) and Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney). The duo we call Stellaride has been front and center in Chicago Fire season 7 in the absence of Dawsey and we expect them to follow a similar path to that relationship.

The finales and midseason finales often featured some kind of trouble for Dawsey, whether it was Louie’s father turning up on their doorstep or Casey being trapped in a fire. The show can’t exactly do a fire-related cliffhanger for Stellaride, because it already had Stella end up in the Emergency Department at Chicago Med just a few episodes ago and Severide’s had his own issues in the line of duty. It would feel repetitive.

But the groundwork has already been laid for a different kind of trouble. Things were never quite resolved with Stella’s high school friend Tyler, and Tye White was billed as a recurring guest star yet has only been seen in one episode so far. If Tyler comes back, Severide will still be jealous of him, and Stella probably still won’t believe his theory that Tyler wants to date her.

That’s an easy way for them to fight, and wind up not in a happy place at the end of 2018. But if that’s the way things go, is Tyler actually that into Stella? And is it a bit ironic that Severide has a problem, when Stella had to see him with not one but two other love interests and swore that she wasn’t jealous? Especially when she was jealous of Foster for just talking to him!
