3. Something ruins Will and Natalie’s wedding

Sorry, Manstead fans, but we’re certain that Chicago Med is not going to give your favorite couple their happy ending. At least not the way it’s been planned.

Fans could probably guess that the show was saving the wedding for this episode; it’s exactly the kind of big event that midseason finales are made of. At the same time, all the evidence from the rest of Chicago Med season 4 so far points to it being some kind of disaster.

Dr. Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) still hasn’t told his fiancee Dr. Natalie Manning (Torrey DeVitto) what he’d been doing for the last few weeks. That’s too big a bombshell to sit on for much longer, and it would be a perfect plot twist for this episode. And if there’s one thing audiences learned in their up and down arc last season, Natalie does not like things being kept from her. What if she gets furious and decides she can’t marry him?

Or it would be typical One Chicago behavior if some external force screws up the ceremony. This whole franchise loves romantic drama, and wrecking a wedding is prime romantic drama. What if the investigation finds some other way to complicate the big day? Or somebody collapses in the church (hopefully not Natalie)? There are just so many ways that this can go wrong, and plenty of reasons why the writers would want to make it go wrong.

That doesn’t mean Will and Natalie won’t ever get married. It’s hard to imagine that they wouldn’t after all that’s been invested into the ship. But something’s going to spin way out of control before they get to say “I do.” After all, this episode will probably end in a cliffhanger like most One Chicago finales, and a wedding in the balance would be one heck of a Chicago Med cliffhanger.
