Chicago PD’s Jon Seda is One Chicago performer of the week
Chicago PD star Jon Seda is One Chicago Center’s Performer of the Week for Dec. 5, for his work in Chicago PD season 6, episode 9.
This week’s One Chicago Performer of the Week honors go to Jon Seda from Chicago PD, for his performance as Antonio Dawson in the midseason finale “Descent.”
It was a surprise to see Antonio completely in the grips of his recently developed drug addiction: disheveled, short-tempered, desperate and exercising really poor judgment.
That storyline was a bit of a minefield for Chicago PD, because it was taking a character who was not only beloved by the entire One Chicago franchise, but who’d always been the most upstanding one on the team—and it was throwing all that away.
But just as Antonio is loved by pretty much everyone, Jon Seda has established himself as one of the most reliable actors in the entire One Chicago ensemble. And he delivered yet another reliable performance in “Descent.”

Seda took Antonio to new lows, whether it was him blowing up in the face of the doctor who refused to prescribe more painkillers or being so in need of a fix that he was out buying pills on the street.
A lesser actor could’ve completely destroyed all of the character’s goodwill, turning him into someone that audiences didn’t like or just felt sad for more than anything else.
But while accurately conveying all the pitfalls that Antonio Dawson went through because of his drug addiction, Seda also preserved the qualities he has that have made him one of One Chicago’s favorite characters.

Even though Antonio was an absolute wreck, he was still a father determined to do whatever he had to, in order to rescue his daughter. He was still able to admit his mistakes, not only to his boss but to the entire Intelligence team. The scene where Antonio apologies to his coworkers was very poignant, just to see him be that vulnerable with them.
And Seda took it up a notch in the scenes where he needed to, whether it was Antonio panicking when Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) busted him on the street, or coming unleashed when he finally found the man who abducted Eva. He was the engine that made the whole episode run, and he sold a story that could’ve been a dud in someone else’s hands. That’s why he’s our favorite actor this week!
