Will FBI’s undercover plot blow up in someone’s face? Look ahead to tonight’s episode with our FBI season 1, episode 10 preview.

The newest Dick Wolf series airs its midseason finale this week, and the stakes are all set for it to end on some kind of personal cliffhanger.

Tuesday’s episode “The Armorer’s Faith” involves Special Agent OA Zidan (Zeeko Zaki) having to go undercover when a previously planned operation goes south.

Anytime a TV show has this type of a storyline, you can bet the hero will wind up in some situation where their cover almost gets blown and/or has some sort of personal side effect from the job. It’s a common crime drama trope.

It would also be perfectly in line with Wolf’s other franchise; all three One Chicago programs used cliffhangers in their fall finales.

Where FBI is different is that it’s also utilizing the episode to introduce some more backstory for its two main characters.

“The Armorer’s Faith” features a guest appearance by Billy Burke (Chicago PD, Revolution, 24) playing the agent who trained OA and his partner Maggie Bell (Missy Peregrym). But that portion of history wouldn’t be why he’s called in, so why is he there?

Is this his undercover operation, and OA is going to work directly with him and/or maybe discover he’s not the same guy he once was?

Does he know a thing or two about the case and is being brought in to help out? Could he be involved somehow?

There are a lot of different ways that the episode could play this, while also giving viewers the usual information about who he is and how he affected the lives of these two characters that they’ve been following all season.

Another interesting thing for viewers to note is that this was not the originally planned fall finale. Another episode, “The New Dawn,” was supposed to air tonight according to CBS listings. So why the change? And will it affect the show’s canon?

The swap could be innocuous; maybe CBS just thought this was the better episode to go out with. Or maybe something in the original episode didn’t jibe right now; after all, this series has proven to be rather timely. There’s no official word (and you normally don’t get one when these happen), so it’s anyone’s guess.

But if that show was supposed to be the finale, will “A New Dawn” have a bigger reveal or even bigger stakes because it was crafted as a finale? Since “The Armorer’s Faith” was supposed to air after it, will things be in here that might not entirely make sense yet?

Or will this be even better than the originally planned ending? The only way to find out is to watch. Check out a preview below:
