Chicago Med season 4: Ranking the biggest moments so far
1) The non-wedding
What happened: Dr. Natalie Manning (Torrey DeVitto) was ready to walk down the aisle again with her BFF turned husband-to-be Dr. Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss). But then Will was kidnapped and almost killed, so the FBI decided to usher him into protective custody, leaving Natalie to tell their friends and loved ones the wedding was off.
The episode: “Death Do Us Part” (episode 9)
Why it’s important: Because Chicago Med spent so much time on it. Will and Natalie’s wedding was a subplot in almost all of the first nine episodes. Whether it was waiting to find out whether or not she accepted his marriage proposal, or their arguing over the size of the ceremony, fans got a lot of wedding talk in the first eight episodes. And all of that screen time amounted to nothing, yet.
It wasn’t a shocker that something was going to mess up Manstead’s big day; that’s the kind of drama that every TV show would do. Having Will hauled off in a black SUV was taking it to a whole other level—one that could have repercussions for the second half of the season, depending on how angry Natalie wants to be when she gets the truth about Will, Ray Price and the FBI.
This was the moment that Chicago Med season 4 was building to and then it yanked the rug out from under everyone. Well played, show. At least there’s another wedding happening when the show returns, so maybe Will and Natalie will end up as husband and wife after all. But even then, when they’re retired and looking back on their wedding, this is still something that they’re going to remember. As will the fans.
