Chicago Fire’s Charlie Barnett starring in new Netflix series
Former Chicago Fire star Charlie Barnett has joined the cast of a new Netflix comedy series, though details about his role are being kept under wraps.
Charlie Barnett is taking another stab at television—but this time, he’s doing it on Netflix.
The actor is a series regular on the upcoming Netflix original series Russian Doll, which the streaming service announced will premiere on Feb. 1. That will include all eight episodes of the show’s first season.
Russian Doll stars and is also executive produced by Natasha Lyonne, whom Netflix viewers will recognize from playing Nicky Nichols on the company’s hit show Orange Is The New Black.
In this series, her character Nadia gets in over her head “as the guest of honor at a seemingly inescapable party one night in New York City.”

Netflix is being similarly vague about the rest of the characters. There are no details about who Charlie Barnett is playing—not even his character’s name.
But at least he’s getting another TV opportunity, because since his character Peter Mills was written out of Chicago Fire, his track record hasn’t been that great.

Last season, Barnett starred as Ian Porter on The CW‘s military drama Valor, which was cancelled after one season due to low ratings. His part was more of a supporting one anyway; Ian was the boyfriend of main character Nora Madani (Christina Ochoa) while the show hinted at an attraction between Nora and her co-pilot Leland Gallo (Matt Barr).
Before that, Charlie Barnett was part of the ensemble in the second season of ABC‘s Secrets & Lies, which was also cancelled after that season. Even if it had been renewed, he wouldn’t have stayed on because Secrets & Lies was an anthology series with a mostly new cast each year.
So perhaps moving to a Netflix show will be the answer for him. He’s the third One Chicago actor to land on Netflix in the last two years, after Ato Essandoh (Altered Carbon) and Monica Barbaro (The Good Cop).
