Chicago Fire season 7 midseason report: Emily Foster
What’s next
Unlike some of the other Chicago Fire characters, there’s not a clear path forward for Emily Foster when the show returns. She’s decided that she wants to remain a paramedic; that’s great but now what? What does that specifically mean for her future?
Foster has overcome that first hurdle of integrating into the team at Firehouse 51, and given what we just mentioned about the show needing to also integrate her into the hearts of fans, she’ll get more good storylines in the remaining 13 episodes. But what those stories are could be anything, really.
The show is going ahead with a Brett and Kyle romance, so it’ll be fun to see Foster in the middle of that. She’s the one who suggested it, so obviously she approves of it, but will Brett use Emily as a sounding board—like she did with Dawson when she was dating Antonio?
One thing that’s important is Foster has to find a friend amongst the group. She doesn’t have that one person she can confide in yet; even her partner Brett seems like they’re not that close yet. The relationship is still developing and it feels like Brett is still holding her at arm’s length.
The idea of a Foster and Severide (Taylor Kinney) friendship sounded cool, but Chicago Fire shot that down at the end of the same episode when Foster told him to confide in Stella instead. So who’ll be the person Foster connects with and ultimately opens up to? Because there’s a lot more for her to talk about.
