What’s happened so far
With the departure of Monica Raymund, there’s no doubt that Stella Kidd has replaced Gabriela Dawson as the female lead of Chicago Fire. Stella, and her relationship with Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney), has been front and center in the first half of this season.
After almost getting shot last season, Stella was once again put in danger this season; during the One Chicago crossover in week two, she was rushed to Chicago Med where she went through a risky surgery but survived (albeit with less of one lung than she’d had before).
Most of her major story points have come out of the Stellaride relationship. Stella was there for Kelly when his father Benny Severide (Treat Williams) died off-screen from a stroke. She and the rest of Firehouse 51 searched high and low for Benny’s important medal, until they found out that he’d given it to Kelly’s half-sister Katie Nolan (guest star Brittany Curran).
Plus, audiences met Stella’s high school friend Tyler (recurring guest star Tye White), who did not get along well with Severide. When last we saw Stella, she was having drinks with Tyler after she had told her boyfriend to deal with his issues. So are Stellaride on the outs now?
