What’s happened so far

After unraveling the mystery of Hailey Upton’s backstory last season, Chicago PD season 6 moved her forward by fully integrating her into the Intelligence Unit’s personal and professional fabric.

The big development for Upton in the first nine episodes was that she began a romantic affair with Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger). At the end of the One Chicago crossover, Ruzek offered Upton a drink, which fans saw led to a one night stand between them.

Though Upton swore that wouldn’t happen again, it did before the conclusion of the next episode—and the relationship is still going. Chicago PD‘s midseason finale opened with Upton and Ruzek fooling around in an apartment that he wanted them to move into together.

Upton also had Ruzek save her from being shot by a murderous Alderman in one episode when she hesitated to use deadly force, and revealed that she had been abused by her father during an interrogation (in a scene you can rewatch by playing the video below).

So whether it’s getting involved with a coworker or having to publicly reveal another secret, she’s definitely part of the team now and her role has certainly expanded since she was introduced at the end of the fourth season.
