More from One Chicago Center

1) Manstead gets worse before it gets better

Don’t expect a happy reunion between Dr. Natalie Manning (Torrey DeVitto) and Dr. Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss).

When Will returns to the hospital, he’ll have an awful lot of explaining to do. Natalie will be understandably hurt and angry about not only their wedding being ruined, but the fact that he lied to her. And Chicago Med fans know that she doesn’t let go of her anger easily.

Plus, Will is going to no doubt have his own issues from what he’s gone through and his two months in witness protection. These two have a lot of wounds to heal, and fans know that the writers love romantic drama, so there’s every reason for Manstead to be on the rocks for a while longer.

2) Something happens to April

April Sexton (Yaya DaCosta) narrowly escaped serious harm earlier in Chicago Med season 4 when she ran into a contaminated ED, but we don’t believe she’ll be as lucky when the season starts up again.

April hasn’t had a big storyline of her own yet; almost everything she did in the first nine episodes was in relation to Dr. Ethan Choi (Brian Tee). And there’s a bit of a love triangle brewing with Choi and Vicki Glass (recurring guest star Cynthia Addai-Robinson).

Something is going to have to happen, to pull Choi away from Vicki and back to April. And Chicago Med loves using life-threatening situations to unite or reunite couples. It’s already done that once this season by having Dr. Ava Bekker (Norma Kuhling) collapse, which led to her getting back with Dr. Connor Rhodes (Colin Donnell).

A similar situation would be exactly the thing to make Choi realize he’s not over April and it would also start the second half of the season with a bang.

3) Connor and Ava hit another speed bump

Speaking of Connor and Ava, just because they’re back together doesn’t mean that it’s going to be smooth sailing for the new-old couple. Their professional conflict is the core of their dynamic, so it would be unrealistic for them to just be happy with each other all the time.

And there’s a big specter hanging over their renewed relationship: Connor’s father Cornelius (guest star D.W. Moffett). Remember that Cornelius has a fixation on Ava, and he’s also gotten himself a seat on the hospital board this season, too.

Based on the spoilers that have been released already, we expect Cornelius to make life difficult for both Ava and Connor in any way he can, just because he can. And of course, that will give his son another axe to grind—which fans know Connor is darn good at. Hold on to your seats for this storyline.
