Chicago Fire, Chicago Med and Chicago PD ratings are in for the latest episodes. Here’s the Jan. 16 edition of the One Chicago Ratings Report.

With another week of the One Chicago season in the books, it’s time to take another look at the franchise’s TV ratings with the One Chicago Ratings Report.

Midseason premiere buzz is now out of the way and it’s business as usual for the franchise. So did audiences continue to come back in the second week of 2019? And what was that weird anomaly in the ratings?

Chicago Med opened up the night at 8 p.m. with a live audience of 8.52 million live viewers, which made it the most-watched show on broadcast TV this Wednesday!

What makes that stat amusing is that it was actually down week to week; the show lost 0.62 million viewers from last week’s midseason opener. But that wasn’t enough to keep it from being top of the charts.

The latest Chicago Fire came in at 9 p.m. bringing with it 8.01 million live viewers. That, too, was down from the 8.08 million who watched last week.

Fire was still the second most-viewed series among broadcast TV shows on Wednesday night, though, so that position stayed the same.

Here’s where things get interesting. Chicago PD, which has had its fair share of ratings struggles this season, did not drop this week—in fact, it came back with numbers even bigger than its midseason premiere!

7.23 million people watched Chicago PD live this week, making it the only One Chicago series to gain viewers week to week and bumping it from fourth place overall up to third. That gave the whole NBC franchise a clean sweep of the top three spots in the broadcast TV rankings!

So what happened, and how can we make it keep happening? There just wasn’t competition in the 10 p.m. time slot this week. CBS ran a repeat episode of FBI (ironic given that it’s also a Dick Wolf show) while ABC aired the freshman sitcom Single Parents and the game show Match Game.

If anyone was looking for a new episode of a show that they recognized, chances are they were ending up on NBC. Obviously that will not be the case going forward, so keep an eye on the figures and we’ll have to see if the Intelligence Unit’s ratings take a dip when CBS runs originals or ABC has a more recognizable show in that hour.
