How far will Chicago PD go to bring down Kelton and Brennan? Look ahead to tonight’s episode with our Chicago PD season 6, episode 12 preview.

After Chicago PD revealed a not entirely unexpected plot twist last week, this week’s episode will explore the fallout. But how difficult will things get for Intelligence now that the truth is out?

Wednesday’s episode “Outrage” sees the Intelligence team working on a case that the police brass don’t want them chasing, which may be exactly why Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) has decided to go after it.

After all, Voight and company learned in the previous episode that mayoral hopeful Kelton (John C. McGinley) and Deputy Superintendent Katherine Brennan (Anne Heche) were in league with one of the city’s drug dealers.

The fact that their alliance led to the death of one of Voight’s friends only fueled his desire to see both Kelton and Brennan taken down—a plot twist that Chicago PD fans likely saw coming, but it still turns the whole sixth season in another direction.

Voight versus a corrupt higher-up has become a theme of recent. Last season it was him battling his ex-partner turned Internal Affairs lieutenant Denny Woods (Mykelti Williamson), and this season it’s the two top people in the Chicago Police Department.

If you think about it, that’s not a flattering picture of the CPD; the bosses all seem to be corrupt, and it’s not as if the Intelligence Unit is flawless either. They routinely get away with things they shouldn’t. This is a tough department to work in!

So what will make this story different from the one audiences just saw?

Brennan and Kelton aren’t specifically gunning for Voight, the way that Woods got almost creepily obsessed with taking him down. On the other hand, Woods wanted to eliminate Voight because of his own moral code—however warped it was; Kelton and Brennan’s only motivation right now seems to be for themselves.

So it’s really a toss-up, and Chicago PD will have to pull a few more strings to show why this is such a significant deal. There has to be something a little bit more than just not wanting Kelton to become Mayor; that’s a valid concern, but that’s almost too simple for a show that deals in grey areas and complications.

There should be more danger when dealing with the people at the top of the department’s food chain. And assuming that Voight and the team succeed, will we get to see the fallout? Who’s the other mayoral candidate? Are they any better? There’s so much unanswered, and the search for more clues starts here.
