Chicago Fire’s Charlie Barnett features in the trailer for Netflix’s new series Russian Doll. Watch the Russian Doll trailer here before the premiere.

In less than a week, Chicago Fire alum Charlie Barnett’s new series Russian Doll will premiere on Netflix, so the streaming service has released a trailer to give viewers an idea of what the show is about—and it’s a bit weird.

Russian Doll stars Natasha Lyonne as Nadia, a woman who ventures through New York City only to keep dying, over and over again, in some increasingly bizarre ways.

While she tries to figure out what keeps causing her to meet her end, one of the other people that Nadia runs into is played by Barnett, whom One Chicago fans will remember as former Firehouse 51 candidate Peter Mills.

Barnett was written out of the show near the end of the third season, with Mills deciding to move out of state to help with his family’s business.

He’s since been a series regular during the second (and final) season of ABC‘s anthology show Secrets & Lies, and in The CW‘s military drama Valor, that only lasted one season before it was cancelled due to low ratings.

But his character in Russian Doll certainly doesn’t seem anything like the lovable, earnest Peter Mills. In fact, he comes off as a little bit creepy, particularly when he and Lyonne’s character are staring at each other while in a plummeting elevator that’s obviously going to kill them both.

That’s not even the weirdest thing that happens in the Russian Doll trailer, so this new series may not appeal to every Chicago Fire fan.

But it’s good to see Charlie Barnett back in a new project, especially since the last few shows he’s been on haven’t lasted very long. He hasn’t had a huge break on TV since Peter Mills left Chicago, and he definitely deserves one. Maybe this show will let viewers see him in a new light and lead to other opportunities for him in the future.
