Chicago PD’s Burgess is about to discover Ruzek and Upton

Chicago PD will finally have Burgess find out that Ruzek is sleeping with Upton, and we know when in Chicago PD season 6 it’s happening.

The biggest Chicago PD question is finally going to get an answer, and the scene fans have been waiting for is happening in less than a month.

Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati) will find out about the romantic relationship between her former fiancé Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) and Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos), which has become the show’s primary ship.

The reveal will happen in this season’s 14th episode, which is two episodes away and scheduled to air on Wednesday, Feb. 13—ironically, the day before Valentine’s Day.

According to official information released by NBC this week, the episode is called “Ties That Bind” and involves Ruzek and Burgess going undercover again. The duo previously went undercover in the most recent episode, “Outrage,” posing as drug dealers.

But things will get more complicated this time, because the official description for “Ties That Bind” reveals that “Before going undercover, Burgess discovers that Upton is dating Ruzek.”

It’s the moment that Chicago PD fans have been asking about ever since the show had Ruzek and Upton wake up together at the beginning of the third episode of season 6.

Now, almost a dozen episodes later, everyone will see how Burgess reacts to one of her teammates sleeping with her ex—an ex whom Burgess herself got back together with for a one-night stand at the end of an episode last season. Remember this moment from more than a year ago?

Burgess and Ruzek had plenty of fans among Chicago PD viewers, and many of them have been waiting for months to see what effect the Ruzek and Upton ship has on Burgess. This is a scene that the show needs to get to, and honestly could have gotten to earlier, so it’s good that it’s not being dragged out any longer.

Besides, with Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) having stumbled onto the relationship and spoken to Upton about it recently, the natural next step is for someone on Ruzek’s side—Burgess—to also figure it out. This is the organic progression of the story, and it will perhaps give some closure for the fans still rooting for Burgess and Ruzek, since Chicago PD has clearly committed to having him be with Upton.

Plus, once Burgess makes peace with Ruzek not being available, the show could possibly move on with a new love interest for her, too. So this development puts so many different aspects together and fans only have to wait a few more weeks to see it happen.
