Chicago PD season 6, episode 14 preview: Ties That Bind
What should fans watch for in this week’s Chicago PD? Get ready for tonight’s episode with our Chicago PD season 6, episode 14 preview.
The next Chicago PD episode is one of those where the plot is clearly created just to service one of the personal subplots—in this case, Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati) finding out what’s going on between her ex-fiance and her co-worker.
Wednesday’s episode “Ties That Bind” involves Burgess and Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos) being undercover together, and NBC‘s promo for episode has already given away that they end up being taken hostage.
This conveniently gives them time to discuss how each of them feels about the fact that Upton is dating Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger).
These kinds of episodes can be frustrating, because the plot either feels forced or just isn’t that good since it’s being written for the relationship, as opposed to the relationship growing normally because of what the characters experience in the plot.

But we’ve seen this before in One Chicago; look back to Chicago Med a few weeks ago, when the episode was all about couples’ personal issues and the cases felt like afterthoughts to that.
It’s also curious that NBC decided to release the one moment that Chicago PD fans have been waiting for—the scene where Burgess finds out—as its sneak peek (which you can watch at the bottom of this article).

That’s the big plot twist we’ve wanted for months, so why give it away before the episode even starts? Unless there’s something even bigger around the corner?
While this is obviously a Burgess and Upton-centric episode (and Ruzek, by extension, as he will worry over both of them and then inevitably there will be at least one angsty moment where he either has to talk to Burgess and/or comforts Upton while Burgess looks on), the one character who could be worth watching is Kevin Atwater (LaRoyce Hawkins).
Firstly, Atwater went through a heck of an experience last week, and it would be very odd if he was just back to normal this week. Chicago PD doesn’t always carry things like that through, but surely when it’s something of that magnitude? Secondly, Atwater is Burgess’ former partner and still close friend.
This episode could provide a great Burgess and Atwater moment as he helps rescue her or is there for her to talk to about the whole Ruzek and Upton situation. Or even Atwater and Ruzek, since Adam was there for Kevin when nobody else was last week. Let’s hope that in sorting out all of the relationship drama, Chicago PD doesn’t forget about the friendships, too.
